OccupyWallStreet.net Domain Name Sold For $8,000

The current “occupy” demonstrations happening across the US is polarizing people from all walks of life. But the protests are also attracting opportunity seekers and one domainer has capitalized on what many are expecting to be a longstanding phenomenon.

According to one popular domain industry blog, the domain OccupyWallStreet.net was recently sold for the tidy sum of $8,000. This is clear evidence that the movement itself expects to be around for some time and the fact that someone within the movement was able to fork out $8000 shows the level of commitment which exists.

Details are sketchy about the seller but the lead protester who negotiated the deal is believed to be one Jake DeGroot, a 26 year old New Yorker who from all accounts is ‘sick and tired’ of corrupt bankers ‘robbing the people blind’. Since the movement started there have been several incarnations of the ‘Occupy’ mantra with many such demonstrations springing up in cities like Dallas and other parts of the country.

Perhaps the opportunity to capitalize on the protests from a domaining perspective is all gone—surely by now all the other ‘occupy’ domains would have been snapped up. For those who snapped them up though, there’s clearly more money to be made.
