Popular social discovery website StumbleUpon has been on a tear recently. In the last few months the site has seen a record increase in the number of monthly page views and unique visitors—and revamping the way the site works along the way.
Things look to be getting better for StumbleUpon and in recent weeks the company has made an acquisition which many are speculating may be part of a larger strategic objective for the popular social website. The acquisition was of the domain Stumblers.com for $6000. Many believe the domain owner could have asked for more given that StumbleUpon’s users are indeed called ‘Stumblers’ and the domain will help the site push the branding even further.
Still, $6000 for a domain that probably only cost $10 to register isn’t bad going at all. Many domainers don’t even break the $100 mark for the domains they register or buy from other domainers.
Domainers and social media experts alike will be looking on closely to see what StumbleUpon does with Stumblers.com. Some are speculating that it will be a special site that hosts the more prized stumbles that users come across, but it’s hard to tell at this point. We’ll just have to watch and see.
