The Story Behind Badoo’s 135 Million Users

In just few short years since Badoo was launched, the social network has grown to over 135 million users. And by the look of things, that number will grow even more in the coming years. But what is the story behind Badoo, and how did it grow so quickly, to the point where it is now closing in on Twitter’s 200 million+ active users?
Badoo was launched with a simple vision: “Put people in touch with each other all around the globe”. This vision has helped the social network grow to the above-mentioned 135 million users, spanning 180 countries on 7 continents with over 37 different languages. Facebook may be now just growing into a global social network, but Badoo has been such since day one.
The huge pool of Badoo users engage on a daily basis on information and general data sharing, making it a truly community and friendly space. Indeed this has been a big part of its appeal. Badoo is also easy to use and devoid of clutter, something big social networks like Facebook can’t say now that its tried to cater to all and sundry.
The growth of Badoo is plain evidence that a social network can be free (and paid) and still attract a loyal following. The story may now stand at 135 million users, but it will grow—perhaps even overtaking Twitter by the end of 2012.
