46% Of Moms Hide Their Full Facebook Profiles From Their Kids

Most people who have active parents on Facebook are always mindful of how much they share with those parents. Profiles for instance are almost always hidden from parents. But it turns out from a new study that the converse is true—parents are also hiding their profiles from their children too.
The study was conducted by the of publisher of Parenting andBabytalk magazines and found that 46% of mothers who responded don’t give their children full access to their profiles—preferring instead to only give access typo the areas that are considered ‘safe for them to see’. The revelations of the study aren’t all that surprising; parents after all, have certain things that should be kept from their kids.
What is surprising however, is the level of connections that parents tend to seek with the friends and associates their kids have on Facebook. 77% of the parents interviewed said that they make sure that they are friends with the ‘friends of their kids’ on Facebook. Some parents are also very discreet with how they interact with their kids’ profile on Facebook. Many choose to look at the profiles of their children through someone else’s account.
All in all, the study shows that parents are very keen on monitoring their children on social networks like Facebook. And given the dangers out there these days, this can’t be a bad thing.
