There are records for everything; even texting and when it comes to texting well, teens do it better than any other age group around. The very act itself seems to have originated with teens, so it comes as no surprise that teens send massive numbers of text each month.
According to a new study by Nielsen on data usage among various age groups, teens send on average, around 3,417 text messages a month. The majority of these teens fall between 13 – 17 and accounted for around 90MB of data usage each month in the first quarters of 2010. Fast forward to 2011 and this age group is using over 320 MB of data—a jump of more than 256%. Teens above this age group no snails either and account for a whopping 147% increase in data usage.Girls are more active texters than boys and send around 200 more text messages, on average. Voice usage seems to be going the way of the Dodo bird and many teens cite the ease at which they can flick their fingers and send a message to their friends. Hard to believe, I know, but talking is actually going out of fashion. What I suppose will be interesting to watch is how these ‘now’ teens function as young adults—what one earth will they be doing then?
