Getting people to fork out almost $450 for an electronic gadget is not easy, unless of course you happen to be eBay and offering the Apple iPad2.
The online auction giant decided to run an offer during Cyber Monday for the very popular tablet PC, slashing $50 off the MSRP price and even beating out the discount offered by Apple itself of $41. With such a discount, rabid Apple iPad fans couldn’t get enough of it and eBay reportedly sold 240 every hour on Cyber Monday—at $449 a pop. Assuming the deal was bang on 24hrs, eBay perhaps sold over 5,760 iPads. But those who waited more than 2 hours to act would have missed out because according to eBay, the offer was sold out within that time.Apple iPads are expensive and the fact that people were willing to dip into their wallets for the White, 16GB iPad2 that was on offer says quite a lot. But the iPad2 isn’t all that people got a chance to acquire at a knock-down rate. Also on sale were RIM Blackberry Playbooks, Xbox 360 Kinect Bundles and a few other minor product offerings. All in all, eBay got in the act, ran a few deals using its brand on Cyber Monday and seems to have made a handsome profit.
