10.2 Million Americans Have Gotten Their Jobs Through LinkedIn

The internet has touched virtually all sector of our lives—everything from jobs, divorce, even the way we raise our children has been impacted. It’s very difficult to measure impact across all the various elements that make up our lives but fine folks over at Mashable are attempting to quantify things as it relates to jobs and job hunting.
Linkedin Surpasses MyspaceAccording to a study revealed in an infographic, over 10.2 million Americans have got their current job through professional social networking site, LinkedIn. Another 8 million confirmed having received their current job through Twitter, whilst a staggering 18.4 million Americans have got jobs through Facebook. Whilst Twitter’s contribution to the job-hunting market is not surprising, LinkedIn’s contribution is a tad surprising. One would have thought that since a big part of LinkedIn’s raison de tre is the connection of job hunters with job providers, it would have at least beaten Facebook. After all, Facebook may have the functionality that facilitate job search and hiring, but it is not the main focus of the platform.
Perhaps what this study shows is that Facebook’s numbers are so overwhelming that it can out muscle even platforms that are built for a certain purpose. One the other had though, the numbers also show that given a bit more volume to work with, LinkedIn would easily trump Facebook as the platform of choice for finding a job.
