Kids Social Network, Club Penguin Hosts 150 Million Profiles

Social networks have become popular for people of all ages as a way to stay connected and communicate with friends, family members, coworkers, and various other people in their lives. Many users of social networks are teens and adolescents, however the adult users have increased greatly over the years, making social networks not just something that youth’s use, but adults as well. Businesses even use social networks such as Facebook to connect with customers and advertise their services. However there seems to be an age group of people that social networks such as Facebook and Twitter do not target. This would be the younger generation of children in today’s society that are too young to fully understand and use social networking sites, and it would seem that this could be dangerous putting young kids on the internet.

However, there is a social network that is changing this and it is called Club Penguin, which is a social networking site for children. It is a social networking site from the Disney corporation that allows kids to have a web site and social networking site all their own. Their bright, fun website is entertaining for kids to visit and allows them to create a membership account where they can “Waddle around and meet new friends!”. They are also able to view toys, shop online, submit and create art work, and play games. Their is an info tab for parents on the web site’s home page so that parents can approve the web site and learn more about it before turning their kids lose on the internet.
This is a great concept for kids to use on the internet since it gives them a safe and fun place to explore and be creative and allows them to gain internet knowledge.
