Facebook Now Lets You Post 60,000+ Character Statuses

The race is on it seems to see which social network can give the maximum character allowance for status updates. Google started out the gates with a character limit of approximately 100,000 for status updates leaving Facebook in the dust at 500. Not to be outdone, Facebook upped its posting limit in September from 500 to 5,000 and now it has made an even more ambitious push to keep its users happy.
The social networking giant announced that effective immediately, users can now post updates in excess 60,000+ characters. The new limit, whilst only more than half of Google Plus’ limit, is sure to be welcomed warmly by users. I for one was very annoyed at typing away, and hitting the submit button only to have my update rejected. A 60,000 character limit as one observer pointed out is just over 1/9th of a novel and should give the average Facebook user plenty of room to manoeuver.
The new upgrade will certainly bring Facebook on par with the very ambitious features that are now a part of the Google+ platform. Facebook has been very busy incorporating features that ‘it’ didn’t think of and that are included on Google+. This strategy is perhaps not a bad way to keep ahead of Google—watch what Google+ does and copy.
Do you think the 60,000+ status update character limit will keep Facebook users happy and not make them switch to Google+? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
