11.4% Of The 7 Billion People On The Planet Are Using Facebook

While everyone is busy watching Google do its thing, Facebook is quietly taking over the world. This now has to be the consensus when you consider that the world’s population now stands at a massive 7 billion and of those, 11.4% are using Facebook. What’s more the social networking giant is set to break the 1 billion active user mark anytime soon.

Many don’t realize it, but Facebook, not Google is set to become the web’s dominant force in the next few years. The site is now number two in the world for most visitors each day and much of what Google does these days is geared at topping Facebook—Google+ is a prime example if that. But what is also interesting is that Google is used often as stepping stone to get to Facebook and according to some reports, 60 – 70% of searches in Google lead directly to Facebook.

Unless something dramatic happens, Facebook will become the medium through which most of us define our lives. And even if you shy away from the social media euphoria, you are bound to know someone who’s involved somehow. Facebook is here to stay, the best we can do I suppose is use it responsibly and try not to let it become the reason we live.
