Corporation.net Sells For $14,000

Domainers like to say that all the good names are all gone and judging by what has been changing hands recently, I tend to agree with the sentiment. The current crop of domains changing hands all seem to have been registered years ago, and now are just going round in circles.

Take corporation.net for example, the domain was recently sold by popular domainer, Mike Mann for $14,000.00. A little check on the domain shows that it was first registered in June 2001—over 10 years ago! Clearly this domain has either gone through several developments or it’s been sitting dormant in someone’s portfolio waiting for the opportune moment.

Mike Mann himself confessed in a tweet that the amount wasn’t as much as he anticipated, but given the size of his portfolio, I am sure he can live with ‘only’ making $14,000 on a sale. It also depends too on how much Mann paid to acquire the domain. If we are talking first registration, then he would make a staggering profit on the $10 or so it takes to register a .Net.

If on the other hand, Mann acquired the domain with the expressed aim of reselling, then I rather suspect it would have cost him a lot more than 10 bucks. Whatever the case though, I am sure he made a profit.

Do you agree that the good domain names have all been registered already? Share your thoughts with us below.
