This past week has been rather quiet for domain sales, leaving many to wonder if the recession is finally catching up with the domain aftermarket. The biggest sale was Stocked.com which went for a decent (but unusual) $11,000. I say unusual because one word domains are so hard to come by so when one does come on the market, buyers are usually rabid.

This didn’t happen at all with Stocked.com and it’s really difficult to gauge what contributed more to the under-performing sales. Perhaps the fact it was listed at Namejet.com and not Sedo played a part. I have long since held the view that the really heavy hitters frequent Sedo.com and nowhere else. This of course might be an overestimation on my part, but when you look at the big name domain sales in the past year, Sedo has handled the majority of their sales.
One other possible explanation for the poor performing sales figures is the approach of the holiday season. At this time of year, domainers tend to close out on their activities and look inwards towards family, vacation and the like.
Whatever the case though, the seller of Stocked.com will be having mixed feeling about the $11,000 received for the domain. On the one hand, 11K isn’t bad for a domain sale, but on the other, it could very well benefit from a 50K sale if and when it’s listed in the near future. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen—for the seller’s sake.
