“Dropped domain fetches $21,000 at auction”. That’s the sort of headline you see that immediately leaves you agape with shock. But this is precisely the scenario surrounding the domain Sora.com, which was recently sold at auction through Namejet for a staggering $21,000.
The lucky buyer has not been disclosed, but what’s known is that the domain was owned formerly by St. Onge, Ruff and Associates, Inc. of York PA. It’s not clear why they let the domain expire without renewing but I am sure they are now kicking themselves for letting such a gem slip through the cracks. The domain was registered in September 1995 and based on Archive.org, there was no recent development activity surrounding the domain.
Notwithstanding this though, the people over at St. Onge, Ruff and Associates, Inc., should have been more vigilant. It’s one thing to keep an undeveloped, untapped-potential domain in your portfolio sitting idle, but letting go is a different matter all together.PA. Clearly the webmaster fell asleep at the wheel, but this should be a lesson to all companies and individuals sitting on domain gold: “always check to see when they expire”. Doing so could mean being $21,000 better off.
The fact that 4 bidders made bids in excess of $10,000 shows that Sora.com is hot property indeed.
What do you think about the former owners of Sora.com who let it slip through their fingers? Share your thoughts below.
