Another domainer has struck gold of sorts with the sale of reconnect.com for a hefty $45,000. The sale was brokered through Sedo.com and adds to the very profitable week that the popular aftermarket has been happening. I speculated a few posts back that Sedo could very well end up shattering all sales records this year and this latest sale only adds to my belief.
Reconnect.com is an interesting sale too. The domain was first registered in 1999 and currently sits parked at Parked.com. One of the first things you’ll notice about the domain is that it has some connotations with phone services—albeit slight. I couldn’t find any data on Archive.org with helping to determine previous use, but I can see the present buyer using it for something related to phones.
There was another interesting sale lumped with Reconnect.com in the form of Commodity.co. The top level domain extension for Columbia is heavily marketed as an alternative to ‘Company’ and has seen a surge in activity. Commodity.co was first registered in July 2010 and sold for $20,000. I can’t imagine that it would have been developed properly in such a short time so in terms of ROI, I would say the seller has made a killing. Depending on who you register with, .Co domains cost no more than $25; a $20,000 sale price therefore represents a return of over 79000%! For simply registering a domain and waiting for a year, that is not bad going at all.
