Google Starts To Rent Out Movies For $0.99

With the launch of Google TV and the potential bid made for Hulu, Google’s hand became very clear to the players in the streaming online movies market. But just in case things are clear enough, the search giant has just revealed a promotion to make its position very clear.
Google made an official announcement that people living in the US are able to take advantage of movie rentals via its Android Marketplace for the ridiculously low sum of $0.99 per movie. Once rented, movies can be watched up to 30 days after initial rental and are viewable on Desktops as well as Android devices. One user has cited ‘good video playback’ on his Nexus Android device and the general feedback so far is that this move is a good one on Google’s part.
The only downside is that the pool of movies offered is not very wide and users can only choose from around 12. If this is a new service that Google intends to scale, users I am sure can expect massive selection of movies to choose from. I suppose too, that as Google makes better and better connections with the top movie distributors and content providers its offering will stretch beyond just its Android Marketplace.
