eBay User Buys An Illegal Copy Of Video Game For $2,000

It’s hard to call someone stupid for wanting something so badly that they pay a premium for that thing—that sort of thing happens all the time. But you can call someone stupid for selling something illegal for a quick buck.
This is the scenario surrounding an eBay user who recently forked out $1725 for an illegal copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The game which has an official launch date of November 8 (3 days after the eBay listing ends) is considered by many to be one of the hottest releases of 2011 and many avid gamers are expected to queue up to buy the Xbox 360 mega-game.
The expected selling price for Modern Warfare 3 will be around $60 so the ‘lucky’ buyer who couldn’t wait three days just paid an extra $1665. And what of the seller? It’s not clear if eBay will sanction the seller—perhaps even suspend their account, but odds are something will happen. If copies of Modern Warfare 3 are knocking about eBay, the manufacturer will be expecting eBay to take steps to prevent their sale—and only an outright ban can prevent that sport of thing from happening.
Would you pay extra to get an early copy of a well sought after video game? Watch the video below to see a clip from Modern Warfare 3:
