The domain name Boomers.com (as in Baby Boomer) fetched a surprising $26,900 after a bidding war erupted during its auction over at popular domain aftermarket, NameJet recently. In total over 240 people joined the bidding frenzy, sending the total number of bids to 320. 4 of these bidders were hardcore NameJet users and it’s being reported that they helped to fuel the bidding frenzy, having joined shortly after the bidding crossed over into five-figure territory.
Of course, the domain is good catch. The Baby Boomers are still considered a demographic ripe for the picking in the US and although the now slowly redefining itself through other demographic, the ‘Boomers’ are still hugely influential. The domain itself was registered a while now so the seller looks tpo be someone shedding some weight from a heft domain portfolio.
It’s not clear though, who the buyer is because the sale hasn’t reached the level that sees that sort of intense digging. One commenter on the sale however, did make the point that there’s a company based in San Diego called ‘Boomers’ and who operate a chain of Arcades/Mini-Golf stores. The speculation is that they might have been the reason the domain bidding was pushed to the limits it was.
Whatever the case, someone is now the proud owner of a brandable, one-word domain.
