We all know people that have been greatly impacted due to the current state of the economy, these impacts being mostly negative with many people losing their jobs. For those of us who know people out of work or currently looking for work, it is obvious how tough this is for many. People’s lack of education, the lack of jobs in their area, or the field that they are in, all can contribute to the difficulty they are having in finding a job. Mostly when applying for jobs people apply in person by filling out applications or even online applications, which are then proceeded with personal interviews if the company is interested. However in the recent years social media recruiting has emerged as a way for businesses to find new employees and for employees seeking jobs to contact various job opportunities or companies. This topic of social media recruiting hasn’t made it into mainstream conversation yet and here are some possible reasons why:

“Employers lack knowledge of how job seekers are using mobile devices and how their businesses could take advantage of the mobile web to find top talent. As a result, only a limited number of employers have implemented mobile recruiting strategies via apps and mobile websites, according to a study by online recruiting research lab PotentialPark. The study found that a healthy 19% of job seekers use their mobile devices for career-related purposes (and more than 50% of could imagine doing so), yet only 7% of employers have a mobile version of their career website and only 3% have a mobile job app.”
This may not seem like a large percentage of people using this new recruiting yet, but with the continuing emergence and popularity of smart phones, it won’t be surprising if this continues to increase and the way people find jobs as well as get jobs is due to social media recruiting.
